A. hope fully it's a work in pro gress

A. At the end of Buket Alakus's beautiful film 'Eine andere Liga' she stops people in the street and asks them to define football's offside rule.  No-one does it very well until someone says: "It's like love. It's really hard to explain but you know it when you see it"
Q. What’s your greatest fear?
A. death / suffering of loved ones
Q. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?
A. "There's no place like Rome", Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (often misquoted)

A. Emanuel Ringelblum
Q. Which living person do you most admire?
A. My Dad (Nelson Mandela is OK too)

A. "like" (as in "it's like, totally, like, you know, like..."etc

A. Holland losing the 1974 world cup final. I never got over it. Really

A. to see the field as Cruyff does

A. I'm just getting going. One day I might win the Ballon d'Or

A. indecision, definitely

A. My elephantine memory (big, slow-moving, grey, endangered)

A. The new saxophone player with Sweet Sue's Society Syncopators

A. for a person writing about food I'm a really lousy cook

A. It would be a sunny day in June, and I'd be matey enough with the heir presumptive to say: "Hey Franz, give Sarajevo a miss".  And he'd take my advice.

A. Reality TV. It is the work of Satan
Q. What is your favorite occupation, when you’re not writing?
A. watching movies

A. time traveller

A. I like people who are warm, intelligent and funny

A. Fresh mozzarella di bufala from Campania

A. 'I Am The Walrus', 'Werewolves of London', 'Ma il cielo e sempre piu blu', 'Gimme Shelter', Keith Jarrett's 'Koln Concert' (he vocalises throughout so I'm having it as a song)
